History of Graphic Design

tullie house in the 30's

Not too sure about this one being from that decade, actually. But as it grabbed me by the eyes in such a manner, I think it deserves some attention here.

Looking through Tullie house, finding some vintage items from Philip Marlowe's time. Pity it's all English, I bet Tinsel Town had some really swish stuff back then.

Probably not that useful for my project, but I can't deny it's fun researching the decade.

1930's film posters

Wow, such bold use of colour in some strange genres!
The typography is fantastic.

Film posters are similar to book jackets, just bigger, flatter and designed to get you in the cinema rather than sit down and read.

1820's and 30's maps of America

From http://www.davidrumsey.com/blog/2010/1/7/19th-century-maps-by-children

Work by young girls in the 19th Century as part of their geography education.

My favourite is the maps showing dark clouds around the territories.

Nothing to do with the current project, except for being American...
